The Center for Epigenetics and Metabolism (CEM) brings together researchers at UCI interested in epigenetics, chromatin remodeling, and cellular metabolism by fostering research interactions, developing novel strategies, and informing the UCI community of the remarkable developments in the field. The CEM creates a physical, intellectual, and organizational environment for the study of epigenetics and cellular metabolism.
Mission
Our Center is committed to pushing the boundaries of scientific knowledge, fostering innovation, and improving human health worldwide. Our mission encompasses:
- Research Excellence: Conduct groundbreaking research that deepens our understanding of disease mechanisms and their intricate interplay with cellular metabolism.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster a vibrant and inclusive intellectual community by promoting collaboration among UCI researchers with diverse expertise. Our faculty spans researchers in the School of Medicine, Biological Sciences, Engineering, and more. We also collaborate closely with investigators at other institutions in our mission to uncover answers to fundamental biological questions.
- Education and Training: Provide a nurturing environment for students, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career investigators to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the rapidly evolving fields of disease and epigenetics research.
- Translational Impact: Translate basic science discoveries into tangible benefits for society by engaging with industry partners and clinicians to actively improve human lives.
